Pretty Palette {Fun Yarn Choices for Baby Girl}

Sometimes choosing a color palette is the most difficult part of a project, isn't it? Time and time again, I'm in the yarn aisle at the store laying out four or five different sets of colors trying to decide which one is my best option. I'll call some friends, snap pictures with my phone to text to my husband for advice, and just spend way too much time in Hobby Lobby trying to make my final selections.

Right after I posted the granny stripe blanket I made for a friend, I received some emails asking me for help selecting colors for projects. When reading those emails, I would do a google search for a palette and send it their way. Then, the difficult part was matching a palette to actual yarns. As a result of that process, an idea popped into my head. What if I took a fun color palette, located the yarns that were pretty close to the colors shown, and posted them to my blog? Hence this post (and maybe some others like it) was born.

A quick Pinterest search found the adorable color palette above. Wouldn't those colors be awesome for a soft and squishy blanket for a little girl? Thankfully, colors very similar to those pictured are available in Vanna's Choice and Vanna's Choice Baby yarns (see the names in the collage above). I love the way the mustard adds a little different twist on the traditional baby colors (I always say throw one unexpected color into the mix).

After finding the right yarns, I headed over to Ravelry to find patterns that would look adorable in these colors. Several jumped out at me including the Granny Ripple, the Granny Stripe, and the Vintage Crocheted baby blankets. All these are fantastic patterns, but the Rainbow Ripple really caught my eye. It has a vintage feel, I think, but with the right colors would be the perfect baby gift. In fact, next time a friend is having a girl, I think this is the one I'm going for.

When I found the project above on Ravelry I noticed that the color pattern was close to the one above. It added the yellow and white, but the overall look is fantastic, isn't it? There are more beautiful photos here so be sure to check them out. You can also see the exact yarn this crocheter used for her lovely afghan.

If you have a favorite color palette you'd like me to locate yarn colors for, feel free to email me a link or leave it in the comments. I'll see what I can do and you might even see a post on it in the future!

  1. That's beautiful! I always get a little overwhelmed when it comes to choosing colors and organizing them in bigger projects. I didn't realize that you could search for color palettes like you did. That's a very helpful tool!
