Inside the Daisy Cottage {the Playroom}

playroom

Welcome back to the virtual tour of our little house. Last week we took a look at my craft area and this week we're going to take a peak at the girls' playroom.

As you may remember, the "studio" (ha) and the playroom share the same space. It's a Florida room off our living room and bedroom. I love having the spaces together - when it's busy in the crochet world, I'm right near my girls while they're playing. I have blankets for Caroline to lounge on and books to keep Riley occupied all where I can keep a close eye and ear on them as I work.

I'll have to be honest with you, I'm a toy minimalist. When the rug looks like it does in the photo above, I get a little uptight. A while back, I went through all of the toys in our house and purged: I sent some to my mom's (she has a much bigger home and wanted some toys for the girls to play with at Eebee and Papa's) and gave some away. We kept some "big toys"(a kitchen and the baby changing station below) and those that encourage imaginative play, but a lot got the boot. Riley's allowed to have one basket from the cabinet out at a time. When we're done playing with that one, we put those toys away and choose another one.

Items like dolls and purses have homes outside the cabinet so they're more easily accessible to Riley throughout the day. She spend lots of time standing in front of this "baby sitter" playing with her dolls and watching the neighborhood happenings out the back window. Caroline loves to play on the rug and watch her big sister.

Riley's crafts are on display above the baby changing station. I think this might be my favorite part of the room. This picture was taken a while ago, but we keep our recent and all-time favorites in the gallery. Right now, the owl has been replaced with this snowman print.

Stop by next week for a look at another room in our home.

  2. I love that fish tank craft! I need to purge some toys but it's tricky! My kids remember all of their toys quite well so I have to choose carefully!
