Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a Domestic Goddess (a.k.a. Stay At Home Mom), that is working form home and is blessed by a good husband and wonderful daughter. I truly believe that God gives each of us a gift and talent that He intends for us to share with others; mine would be the passion and love of expression with paper and embellishments.
Forever and a day I can get very lost in my work with the many different mediums of textures and colors of paper and embellishments. And any paper store that I should happen to venture into, instantly becomes a candy store for me each time I visit!
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Organizational * Perfectionist * Openhanded
What three words describe your Etsy shop?
Charming * Organized * Informative
How long have you been crafting? When did you start selling on Etsy and what inspired you to give it a try?
I have always been crafty since I was a child and through the years I would attempt anything that caught my fancy. But when my best friend once gave me a handmade card for my birthday and told me to get busy...I did just that, and have been doing so ever since for over the past 11 years now.
The Sentimentalist opened for shop in April of 2010 after my sister had shared about the wonderful world of Etsy with me! She herself has been extremely successful with her own business, Ophelia’s Apothecary, and she had encouraged me to open shop. Etsy is an amazing network for Handmade, Vintage and Supplies; it has been wonderful to be a part of it. And you meet such nice people...such as Lauren who is sharing my shop on this blog!
Besides creating, what are you passionate about?
My faith and my family come first in my life. We are involved and active within our church and in each other’s lives. We have a love for golf, tennis, and bicycling and just spending time together doing anything!
What does your craft space look like? Are you an organized crafter or would you be embarrassed for us to peek at your workspace?
I use to have my studio in a room located in our finished basement, but after 10 years of no windows and much encouragement from my husband, I decided give away all the furniture to a shelter in order to transform a guest bedroom into a room for the Sentimentalist. Love the sunlight and being a part of the world that passes by my window! For the most part is it very organized, but from time to time such as now, I have to stop and resort the room as I can get in frenzy when in my creative mode! :D!
Currently, what are your favorite 2 items from your shop?
That is a hard one to answer...I have too many! LOL They all become your children and sometimes it is hard to send them off in the mail! :D! But here would be two of my top picks today:
Isn’t Life Sweet?! – Stationery
Fried Pickles – Ultra Mini Note Cards / 5Pk
What are some of your favorite Etsy shops?
That is even harder to pick! I have so many that I love!
Ophelia's Apothecary
Cupcake Social
Reclaim2Fame
So Stinking Sweet
Lulu Bug Jewelry
Finally, what suggestions would you make to someone who is thinking about starting an Etsy shop?
Research the other sites and take note of how they are set up with photo techniques and the word listing of their items and pricing; it will save you a lot time and effort.
Make sure that you make your Shop Policies very clear and informative, and remember to complete your Profile so that visitors that stop by have a clear view of what inspires your product line and workmanship.
Graciously make use of the tools and resources that you may obtain from Etsy, as well as the many Teams that you can join. As nice fellow Etsy Shop Owners such as Lauren have a heart of gold and are very generous, are willing to share our stories and shops with others like you!
Thanks, Sharron! I appreciate your willingness to answer these questions for us! Now it's time for me to share my favorites from the Sentimentalist. Don't forget to visit her shop and take advantage of her 20% off offer when you use the code DAISYBLOG.
Graduation parties are upon us and here's a card that doesn't look like you bought it at Hallmark! It's adorable and fresh and something a girl would probably keep as a high school memento.
Having a husband who's a youth pastor means we send cards more often than the average family. We (okay, I) enjoy finding cute cards. I love these and think it would make anyone smile to get one of these in the mail!
i absolutely adore Sharron and her shop, and her cards....and i don't say that just because i'm her baby sis! i can tell you from first hand experience that her cards are just as bright and inspirational as the love put into them.... fabulous interview! {{sharron}}
