I was recently asked to share my home so I figured the best place to start would be the "craft room." Let me start out by saying this: it's not very big and it's definitely not fancy, but it's perfect for us (unless we want to have more kiddos, but that's a story for another day...). I love our house and can't imagine selling it or moving.
For the better part of our married life, I didn't have a designated craft space. When I had the urge to get creative, I would take over the dining room table or some portion of the living room while working on my project and make a complete mess in the process. Before Riley was born, we decided to turn our porch into a Florida room - one of the best decisions we've made regarding our home. We added air conditioning, painted the walls, and changed the floors from indoor-outdoor carpet to something a little more homey. I wish I had a before picture for you - the transformation was truly amazing.

When the change first took place, I had a table/desk on the porch where I worked on my projects. It was usually messy and so dysfunctional that I didn't even want to sit there. When I started crocheting, my scrapbook stuff and other supplies started being buried by yarn so I toyed around with various storage ideas. I used shoe racks and totes (which actually still hold some overflow), but couldn't find anything that kept my yarn neatly organized and easily accessible.
Then, sometime last year, I saw something on Pinterest that changed my life forever. I know, I know... that's a bit dramatic, but it really has transformed my home. Here's the post that helped me get my life more organized. I think I should write that woman a thank you note. Anyways, I bought two of these cabinets off Amazon to house most of my yarn. It holds the vast majority of my cotton stash and a little bit of my acrylic. Riley's hiding the big skeins of cotton yarn.
The Florida room doubles as the girls' playroom so check back next week to take a look at that.

Oh great idea :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have a graft room. Those cabinets of yarn are so attractive too. Off to read that article you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteYour craft room is gorgeous. I have just been trying to organise my craft supplies just recently, making room in our spare room for a new baby.
ReplyDeleteI love your room! It is so cheery and colorful. Love the storage. I have a bookcase that has 15 inch cubes, Thinking I could build dividers like the wine ones and store my yarn. Love being able to readily see what I have on hand.
ReplyDeleteLove the hat that is on one of the wine shelves. It is beautiful! Have you shared that pattern? I would love to make one!
Thanks for sharing!
