NOTE: Sorry the Off the Hook Link party is was missing this week. We were out of town with the youth from church early this week and I haven't had a time to write up my features as of yet. :( It's a good thing I'm better at crocheting than blogging.
I used a traditional granny square pattern very much like this one. My slight variations to the patterns were as follows: when it says chain 3, I only chain two. I also slip stitch rather than single crochet to join the rounds. I did 17 rounds and finished it off with a picot border. If you don't have a pattern on hand for a picot edging, you can find one here.
Lily Sugar'n Cream was my yarn of choice. It's not my first choice for a baby blanket, but I have been wanting to get rid of some of my yarn stash for a while. I definitely didn't want to go out and purchase more for this project.
Overall, I'm quite happy with this project. The final result was a small but fun baby lovey that I think a baby will enjoy (thinking these might be my go-to gift for baby showers). Next time, I wouldn't do the first 6 rounds in the same color. I think I'd like it with a little bit more variation.
It's beautiful - Personally I love the non-standard colours!
ReplyDeleteI think these colours are stunning together! It's gorgeous. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI agree, these colors are absolutely gorgeous together. Great job! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet! How big is it?
ReplyDeleteApproximately 17.5" square. Easily made bigger by adding more rounds :)
DeleteI absolutely love the colors of your quilt!!
ReplyDeleteTurned out magnificently!
ReplyDeleteMay I ask what the colors you used are called? Love them!
ReplyDeleteKatie, the colors are robins egg, mustard, white, and red.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blanket! I am in love with the colors!!! They go very well with each other and are the non traditional blue or pink or the green and yellows when the sex has not been announced. Also, I chain 2 rather than 3 at the beginning. I think it blends better by not curving out.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of doing one for a friend who is expecting and I think I am going to do this one.
Thank you for sharing!
Dennis
I love your finishing edge, do you mind sharing the pattern for that? Or if it's from someone else, a link? :) Love the granny square, one of my all time fav crochet items!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Lovely colors!!
